Kimberly Hickok is a science writer and editor based in the Santa Cruz, California area.
My byline is almost always “Kimberly Hickok” but I generally go by “Kim.”
I’m a science writer and editor who specializes in creating engaging stories and easy-to-digest content for a wide variety of clients, from national news outlets to private research institutions. I’m a graduate of the UCSC Science Communication program (class of 2018) and have been writing and editing full time since 2017, and freelancing full time since 2021. I consider myself a generalist, but I write most often about physics, climate, environment, and biotech.
I’ve written for Science, Popular Mechanics, NBC News, Inside Science, Live Science, Space.com, California Local, Bay Nature, Stanford, CZ Biohub, Symmetry, and the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, among a few others. I’m an on-call editor for Live Science and KneeDeep Times, and I’m also the part-time program assistant and partnerships coordinator for the UCSC Science Communication program.
I’m fortunate to work for some amazing clients, but I’m always on the look out for new collaborations. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re interested in working with me or just have a question!
Outside of writing and editing, I love planning and coordinating parties (especially weddings!), sipping good wine, hiking in the redwoods, and finding new ways to decorate my house.
